About The Position

Turbomachinery Industries is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor / Foreman to lead our machine shop operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the machine shop, ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely machining and repair of components used in compressors, turbines, pumps, and other rotating equipment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with extensive machining experience who can effectively supervise personnel, coordinate shop workflow, maintain quality standards, and drive continuous improvement. This role works closely with Operations, Project Management, Engineering, and Quality to ensure customer commitments are met while maximizing productivity and profitability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of machining experience in rotating equipment, turbomachinery, or industrial repair environments.
  • Strong knowledge of manual machining operations; CNC machining knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience machining and repairing rotating equipment components, including pumps, compressors, steam turbines, and gearboxes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, repair procedures, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of machining tolerances, fits, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and precision measuring equipment.
  • Proven ability to plan work, manage priorities, and lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or machinist apprenticeship preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership experience as a Machine Shop Lead, Foreman, Supervisor, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with both manual and CNC machining operations.
  • Experience supervising machine shop scheduling, labor planning, and productivity metrics.
  • Familiarity with API standards and rotating equipment repair practices.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop machine shop personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, quality, and teamwork.
  • Plan, prioritize, and schedule machine shop work to meet customer delivery commitments and maximize equipment utilization.
  • Coordinate machining activities for new manufacturing and repair of rotating equipment components, including shafts, impellers, sleeves, seal housings, bearing housings, and casings.
  • Review engineering drawings, repair procedures, and customer specifications to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Monitor workflow, labor utilization, and machine capacity to optimize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure all machining operations meet quality standards, dimensional tolerances, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineering, Inspection, and Operations to resolve technical issues and production challenges.
  • Maintain machine tools, equipment, and shop organization to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Enforce all company safety policies, quality procedures, and operational standards.
  • Assist with estimating machining hours, evaluating repair methods, and recommending process improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, cost reduction, and on-time delivery.
  • Participate in hiring, performance evaluations, employee development, and disciplinary actions as needed.
