About The Position

Bowhead is seeking a Machine Shop Inspector/Machinist to support the Engineering/Prototype shop at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) who is also an experienced CNC Machinist/Programmer. This role requires extensive CMM programming/operating experience and a full understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). The applicant will be responsible for explaining inspection results, advising machinists on correcting errors, and creating quality reports. Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and the ability to use precision measuring tools accurately are essential. Due to varying workloads, strong machining capabilities, including the ability to program and operate both CNC mills and lathes proficiently, are also required. Faro arm experience is desired.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • At least ten (10) years of professional technical experience in programming/operating CMMs (School/training may be considered as experience)
  • Ten (10) years of experience as a precision Machinist/Programmer
  • Proficient in creating drawings and models using CAD software
  • Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Office software - Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Full understanding of reading and interpreting Department of Defense drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Fully capable of using precision measuring tools such as dial calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and micrometers
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, customers, and management and respond to instructions/assignments
  • Must be able to perform inspection duties with no supervision
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level
  • US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location
