About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking a Machine Operator for their 1st shift. As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating various machinery including rubber extruders, lathes, media blasters, and grinders/finishers. Your role is crucial in ensuring machine functionality and maintaining high product quality through regular inspections, measurements, and adherence to safety protocols. You will follow production instructions from process sheets, blueprints, or verbal directions, install machine fixtures, operate machinery according to specifications, and monitor the production process to ensure quality standards are met. This role also requires performing regular inspections and measurements of finished products using tools like pie tapes, calipers, and gauges, adhering to cleanliness and safety protocols, and using a crane or buddy system for maneuvering heavy parts. You will also assist in other areas or departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Average math skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to complete simple logs and reports in English.
  • Physically able to handle heavy items, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
  • Must be able to be certified to wear a respirator to operate a media blaster.
  • Must be able to work scheduled hours and comply with the company’s timekeeping policy and all other company policies.
  • Must be able to consistently stand for an entire shift in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Ability to learn fundamental machining concepts.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using measuring devices.
  • Work closely with other team members, including supervisors, to optimize production processes and implement improvements.
  • Attention to detail is essential for maintaining quality standards.
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure to 1/16".
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to dependability and consistent performance.

Responsibilities

  • Follow production instructions and tasks from process sheets, blueprints, or verbal directions provided by the supervisor.
  • Align and secure dies, punches, blades, or other fixtures to ensure the machine operates safely.
  • Set up and operate machines such as extruders, grinders/finishers, media blaster, saws, and CNC machines according to specifications.
  • Monitor the production process to ensure that the machines are functioning correctly and product meet quality standards.
  • Perform regular inspections and measurements of finished products to verify they meet specified tolerances and quality standards, using tools like pie tapes, calipers, and gauges.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety regulations.
  • Use a crane or buddy system to maneuver large, awkward, or heavy parts.
  • Ensure that the work area is clean and organized.
  • Assist in other areas or departments as needed.
