About The Position

This role involves operating machinery to produce and package products, ensuring quality control, and maintaining a safe and clean work environment. The Machine Operator is responsible for various tasks related to the production line, including scanning, verification, inspection, assembly, and data recording. Problem-solving and machine adjustments are key aspects of the position to ensure product specifications are met. The company, Silgan, is a leading manufacturer in dispensing and specialty closures, metal containers, and custom designed plastic containers, serving diverse markets.

Requirements

  • Ability to make adjustments to the equipment or process to ensure that the finished product meets the product specifications.
  • Ability to hold product for future inspection and approval when the machine operator notes that the product is not meeting the product specifications.
  • Ability to perform each duty proficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Scans bar code into the work order.
  • Verifies that the equipment and work area is in safe operating condition.
  • Reads the product master sheet for the product in production.
  • Verifies that the product specifications are being met.
  • Inspects product as it is produced to ensure that it conforms to product standard.
  • Applies labels, sleeves, insert booklets or apply closures, as the product requires.
  • Assembles finished product as required onto trays, into boxes or bags.
  • Assembles skids of finished product and applies labels as necessary.
  • Conducts weight checks and records data on weight control chart each hour.
  • Verifies that the product has been flamed correctly every two hours, if required.
  • Uses a sample bottle to verify that the leak detector is functioning correctly.
  • Empties flash containers into the grinding machine as necessary.
  • Assembles packaging components such as trays, as required.
  • Records defects on the defect tally sheet when defective product is produced.
  • Makes machine adjustments and/or brings defects to the attention of the Shift Supervisor when defective product is produced and where warranted.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the equipment and the work area.
  • Records production on the machine data sheet as manufactured product is produced.
  • Records downtime on the defect tally sheet if equipment is shutdown or ceases to operate.
