About The Position

The Machine Operator supports Cooper Steel of Virginia's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of the Cooper Steel of Virginia’s team, performance includes demonstration of communication, teamwork, job knowledge and leadership. The Machine Operator is responsible for producing parts by setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability and willingness to cross train across several machines within shop
  • Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
  • Proficient in English
  • Previous experience using Forklift

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience using overhead cranes is preferred
  • Prior experience in a similar role is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
  • Verifies setting by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards
  • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
  • Keep work areas clean and organized
  • Other duties as assigned
