About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for the set up and operations of the CNC lathes. This role involves reviewing and verifying part and process sheets, changing tools, clearing robot jams, performing quality checks, monitoring calibration dates, loading/unloading conveyors, and manually checking parts for visual defects. The operator will also mark parts, perform spline checks, handle non-conforming parts, report discrepancies, maintain equipment, print tags, and ensure part number and heat code integrity. Additionally, the role requires adherence to scrap and non-conforming product procedures, accurate completion of paperwork, maintaining coverage during breaks, and cleaning the work area. Following all safety and plant rules is paramount.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write simple instructions and short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to effectively report relevant data and job specific information as needed
  • Ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Ability to navigate basic technology including but not limited to the use of digital self-service platforms, time clocks and other systems where applicable
  • Must have a good mechanical aptitude
  • Required to use the 2-way radio and exhibit good communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • One to three months’ related experience and/or training preferred
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or a strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience using tape measure, dial indicators, length gages, scale/rule, roll stand, micrometers, calipers, gages, computer
  • Experience operating a crane, pneumatic tools, saws, polishers, hand tools, robots

Responsibilities

  • Set-ups/ starts various machines or systems specific to the product line and customer demand
  • Reviews and verifies the current MWF part and process sheets for the part to be processed to ensure accuracy
  • Changes or replace tools as needed
  • Safely clears robot jams and faults
  • Performs periodic quality checks and specified on the MWF part print and inform the supervisor of any out of spec readings
  • Monitors calibration dates on all gages and indicators
  • Loads or unloads conveyors as needed
  • Manually checks parts for visual defects
  • Marks any required symbols or designations on the parts
  • Periodically performs spline checks for specifications using gages
  • Places non-conforming parts or scrap pieces on the designated pallets
  • Tags or marks non-conforming parts/scrap with the appropriate discrepancy and/or enter information on an Itemized Scrap List
  • Reports all discrepancies to the supervisor
  • Stocks water, coolant, change filters, and lubricates unit as required
  • Print tags as required per the work instructions
  • Watches for visual defects at any operation in the cell and report all issues to the foreman supervisor
  • Maintains part number and heat code integrity
  • Follows and supports scrap product procedures and non-conforming product procedures
  • Fills out and return all paperwork required for all duties performed on each shift, such as time tickets, scrap sheets, downtime log, etc.
  • Maintains coverage through lunches, breaks and shift changes
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment
  • Follows all safety and plant rules and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
