Machine Operator - Press Assistant 2
About The Position
Phoenix Color is seeking a reliable and motivated Press Assistant / Feeder to support pressroom operations. The role works alongside Pressmen to keep high-speed printing presses running efficiently by assisting with setup, managing press supplies and chemistry, and supporting quality and safety standards. The position is based at 18249 Phoenix Dr., Hagerstown, Maryland, and is scheduled Sunday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pay is $21 to $27.40 per hour. Phoenix Color is a full-service, full-color printer serving the publishing industry since 1979. It produces illustrated books and specialty commercial products using in-house digital pre-press capabilities and advanced UV printing, finishing, and decorative technologies.
Requirements
- Mechanically inclined, with the ability to accurately read a standard ruler and follow written technical instructions.
- High attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously during a 12-hour shift.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds regularly throughout the day.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing plant setting with potential exposure to liquid chemicals or vapors common to the printing process.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Prior manufacturing experience or technical training with a concentration in printing is a plus; the employer is willing to train the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Assist the lead operator with basic press setups, including loading paper, hanging plates, and preparing blankets.
- Monitor, mix, and maintain proper levels of inks, chemicals, and inline solutions for each job run.
- Read and follow job tickets to ensure materials match customer specifications.
- Perform assigned tasks efficiently to help the crew meet daily production goals and quality standards.
- Perform routine basic machine maintenance and keep the press area clean, safe, and organized.
