About The Position

Machine Operator is responsible for performing tasks involved in the fabrication of copper tubing components according to router or work instructions. This role involves reading job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements, and working on assignments that are semi-routine in nature. The operator may utilize hand or power tools, work at different workstations as production needs require, and obtain/perform First Piece Validation. Responsibilities include inspecting production pieces, troubleshooting machinery, performing basic machine repairs, and cleaning machines daily. The operator must observe machine operation and inspect product appearance to detect defects or malfunctions, and report defective materials or questionable conditions to supervisors. Additionally, the role requires placing scrap in designated bins, following standard work methods for efficiency, practicing safe work habits, and maintaining the 5S housekeeping system within assigned work areas.

Requirements

  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  • Must be able to utilize tape measure, decimal and fraction.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings and follow routers (work instructions).
  • Must be able to use basic handheld measuring tools.
  • Basic knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in standing position throughout shift.
  • High School Diploma/GED or two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Reads routers (work instructions), performs work, and completes tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimal supervision.
  • May utilize hand or power tools as required.
  • Works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature.
  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, including shifting from one station to another, during the assembly and fabrication process.
  • Obtain First Piece Validation and perform First Piece Validation for other operators.
  • Inspect production pieces at various intervals up to 100% inspection as required.
  • Go/No Go gauges may be utilized.
  • Troubleshoot and determine corrective action for machinery when necessary.
  • Perform basic machine repairs or corrections and cleans machines daily.
  • Observes machine operation and inspects product appearance to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Detects and reports defective materials, questionable conditions, or incorrect routers to the shift supervisor, engineering, or quality control.
  • Place any scrap in the designated scrap bin for your work area.
  • Follow standard work methods to ensure production is as efficient as possible.
  • Practice safe work habits.
  • Responsible for the 5S housekeeping system within assigned work areas by maintaining the work area and keeping the equipment in a clean orderly condition.
