About The Position

Data-Mail is one of the nation’s largest full-service direct mail lettershop production facilities. We are a financially strong, family-owned, and operated company that was established in 1971. Data-Mail employs over 800 full-time staff at our two locations, encompassing over 500,000 square feet of production space in the Hartford, CT area. Annually, Data-Mail produces and mails over 1.5 billion pieces of direct mail. This role assists in the operation of 6-8-10 color presses with production and quality in mind. The Machine Operator aids the first pressman, as directed, in the efficient operation of the press and maintains the press area in regard to supplies and housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Trade school, high school or GED preferred plus 1-2 years of experience on offset presses or equivalent.
  • Technical/mechanical aptitude

Responsibilities

  • Assist the first press operator in the job setup, including reviewing job tickets, setting up paper, changing cylinders, hanging plates, changing blankets, installing perfs, scores and die cuts, placing pinfeed, and setting up all finishing aspects of the press (roll-to-roll and sheeter).
  • Assist in the production of a job, including maintaining proper ink and ink levels, maintaining fountain solution, supplying paper, recording paper usage, inspecting print quality (color, register, imperfections), ensuring best quality samples, checking runability in other departments, assisting with job production paperwork, maintaining silicon/anti-stat levels during a sheeter run, and washing up the press at the end of a job.
  • Work on a 6-color press as required, as part of the training process for becoming a 6-color press operator.
  • Communicate press maintenance, supply, and safety issues to the shift supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Mix inks as needed.
  • Drop paper as needed.
  • Operate the press in the absence of the first press operator.
  • Comply with company rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
  • Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve quality and operating efficiency.
  • Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company.
