About The Position

As a Machine Operator at Pratt Industries – Houston, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of production machinery. This position involves a variety of tasks, including machine setup, operation, cleanup, and troubleshooting, with a focus on meeting customer demand and maintaining high-quality standards. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment, constantly striving for improvements in equipment efficiency while ensuring safety and cleanliness in your work area.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions related to safety, quality, and job procedures.
  • Strong mathematical skills for calculations such as percentages, volume, and measurements.
  • Mechanical understanding to identify equipment issues and improve machine performance.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and perform various tasks such as stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in manufacturing, especially in the packaging, paper, or plastics industries.
  • A minimum of 6 months' experience in a similar role is desirable.
  • Lift Truck Operator License may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to all Pratt Industries Safety rules and procedures. Engage in safety committees and encourage colleagues to follow safety practices.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Pratt's quality procedures to ensure only top-quality products are delivered to customers. Prevent defective products by addressing issues during production.
  • Maximize machine utilization by running equipment at optimal capacity and speed. Continuously improve setup times, minimize downtime, and identify maintenance needs to improve overall production efficiency.
  • Assist in training new team members, including Assistant Machine Operators and Production Utilities. Cross-train on various machines and positions to support plant operations and personal growth.
  • Complete daily reports on production data, machine status, safety, and quality. Actively submit maintenance requests for necessary machine repairs and perform proactive housekeeping.
  • Adapt to changing production needs, including overtime or holiday work, and collaborate with team members to meet shifting goals.
