About The Position

The Machine Operator is responsible for starting up production machines, ensuring they are set to accurate set points, and operating various production machines including extrusion blow mold, extrusion, injection blow mold, injection mold, label, pad printer, and silk-screen machines. This role involves ensuring proper machine operation, cleaning filters, performing minor maintenance, and monitoring machines during purging. The operator must also verify that the correct sleeves, boxes, labels, and materials are used for the line, conduct quality inspections, respond to line problems with appropriate adjustments, and notify supervisors of any required repairs. Additionally, the operator will restart machines after maintenance, prepare documentation on issues and solutions, record production and quality data, and close out production runs. Maintaining a clean work area, enforcing safety and housekeeping policies, and assisting with training are also key responsibilities. The role may also involve providing relief for breaks and lunches and performing other related duties.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Mechanical training/aptitude.
  • Technical training on packaging, plastics, and printing equipment.
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience operating machines used in the packaging/plastics industry.
  • Ability to perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
  • Competent in practical application of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratio, and proportion, variables, and formulas.
  • Ability to apply rational principles to solve practical problems and deal with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including the use of CNC machines.
  • Ability to use mechanics tools, calipers, gauges, and weight scales.

Responsibilities

  • Start up production machines and periodically check to ensure machine set points are accurate.
  • Operate various production machines (extrusion blow mold, extrusion machine, injection blow mold, injection mold, label, pad printer, silk-screen).
  • Ensure proper operation of machines, clean filters, perform minor maintenance, and monitor while purging.
  • Ensure proper sleeves, boxes, labels, and materials are used for the line running (verify by part numbers).
  • Conduct quality inspections while the line is running and check samples for compliance to specifications.
  • Respond to problems on the line by making proper adjustments to machines.
  • Notify supervisor when repairs and maintenance are required.
  • Re-start machines after maintenance is completed.
  • Prepare paperwork/documentation on problems, cause, and solutions.
  • Record production and/or quality data (manual/data collector).
  • Close out production run.
  • Keep area clean and free of debris, enforce all safety and housekeeping policies and practices.
  • Assist with training other Technician Operators on various aspects of the job.
  • Provide relief for breaks and lunches.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects.
  • May make boxes, pack and/or test various products.
  • May attach labels to products.
