About The Position

This role is responsible for operating a flat polisher/glass edging machine and performing preventative maintenance on the machine. The Machine Operator I will set up and operate a single side straight-line glass-edging machine to polish glass or mirror edges. They will start the machine, place glass or mirrors on the conveyor, and fabricate glass to customer specifications, verifying program geometric dimensions based on work orders. The operator will move and wipe glass edges to remove polishing compound, and use an overhead crane to maneuver glass onto the machine. Following work instructions, they will read labels to expedite the production process, understand and communicate paperwork, and maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures. Documentation of actions through production and quality logs is required, as is transporting materials to expedite production. The operator will use a tape measure to ensure product specifications are met and strap glass for safe moving. Daily inspections for safety and equipment checks are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • 2+ years relevant manufacturing experience operating machines.
  • HEAVY LIFTING - Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be able to lift up to 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Must be able to push weights greater than 150lbs with a team.
  • Must be able to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Must be able to follow instructions from Supervisor, Plant Manager and/or Branch Manager.
  • Ability to work in varied temperatures consistent with same climate conditions of the region in a non-climate controlled facility (Heat, Cold, humidity).
  • Regular and predictable attendance, safe performance of tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Glass industry experience preferred.
  • Experience using hoists and cranes a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Transports materials including glass from one position/location to another in an effort to expedite the production process.
  • Utilize a tape measure to ensure product is within the product specifications.
  • Strap glass to the carts and or trucks so they are safe for moving.
  • Daily inspections – Look for any unsafe objects, check equipment, etc.
