About The Position

Performs set-ups, makes minor adjustments and operates mechanical packaging equipment during a shift on a variety of machines. Identifies acceptable or unacceptable product quality per customer requirements both before and after product is packed in the Packaging department. This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often in close proximity to co-workers with minimal supervision and at times independently. The operator must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and comply with all safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • 3 – 5 years machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Basic math and reading skills required.
  • PC skills required.
  • Basic mechanical skills required.
  • Ability to work safely on any shift (8-12 hours/day), weekends and overtime.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently at times.
  • Excellent communication, decision-making and organizational skills.
  • Strong self-confidence and leadership skills.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers.
  • Ability to see, hear and talk.
  • Ability to work in light to moderate noise levels; hearing protection may be required.
  • Able to walk up to 400 yards to work areas.
  • Stand eight hours per shift.
  • Communicate in English to give and acknowledge instructions and problems.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Perform general housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity for repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment in close proximity to others.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in various units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
  • Ability to work well with others in stressful situations and meet deadlines as necessary.
  • May work near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to electrical shock, fumes, airborne particles and vibration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the baking and/or packaging industry a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs set-ups, makes minor adjustments and operates mechanical packaging equipment during a shift on a variety of machines.
  • Supply/load trays, flexible packaging or cartons into machines as needed.
  • Must be able to observe machine operation at all times.
  • Visually identify quality or bad product before and after it is packed.
  • Remove/sort unacceptable product.
  • Place product or waste into designated color-coded containers.
  • Read scales to check packaging weights and accordingly adjusts machines.
  • Read and understand bagger/cartoner/code date programs.
  • Assist other packaging employees with rewraps.
  • Perform required housekeeping to keep work areas clean such as sweeping floor, putting trash in trash containers, picking up product from floor.
  • Work in close proximity to co-workers with minimal supervision and at times independently.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.
  • Verbally communicate instructions, problems, etc. to co-workers, supervisors and employees from all departments.
  • Meet Company attendance standards of start and end time for work as scheduled.
  • Comply with all safety, health and environmental regulations as prescribed by law.
  • Comply with all Company rules, regulations and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
