About The Position

This position reports to: Production Supervisor In this role, you will have the opportunity to operate process equipment or machinery to convert raw materials or semi-finished parts into components or finished parts for a final product at the right time and with the required quality. Each day, you will execute the assigned tasks according to agreed workflows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines and reports any non-compliance. You will also showcase your expertise by operating machines in accordance with the operating manual, work schedule, and/or production order instructions. Job Description: Machine Operator - HS CNC Machine Technician Trainee Department: CNC Manufacturing Exemption Status: Hourly non-exempt Reports to: Production Supervisor Summary: Sets up and operates multi-spindle CNC rotary transfer machine processes of diverse functions under minimal supervision using advanced manufacturing knowledge. Trainee position includes learning all technical skill necessary listed below. Trainee will be evaluated during training period to confirm fit and capabilities to meet the final job expectations. Training period will last 6 to 9 months be based on progression of learning.

Requirements

  • Advanced manufacturing knowledge.
  • Advanced and specialized manufacturing/quality knowledge.
  • Flexibility, skill and experience setting up and operating a variety of CNC machines.
  • Uses dial calipers, snap gauges or micrometers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate process equipment or machinery to convert raw materials or semi-finished parts into components or finished parts for a final product at the right time and with the required quality.
  • Execute assigned tasks according to agreed workflows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines and reports any non-compliance.
  • Operate machines in accordance with the operating manual, work schedule, and/or production order instructions.
  • Sets up and operates multi-spindle CNC rotary transfer machine.
  • Makes complex machine and program adjustments at floor management direction to produce a quality part in a timely manner.
  • Uses dispatch list at floor management direction to ensure jobs are run in the most efficient sequence to reduce changeover time from job to job.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of CNC machines.
  • Works effectively as a member of a work team.
  • Actively involved in cross-training and assists co-workers in cross-training.
  • Reads work instructions to determine job specifications, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Makes general decisions as to quality, tolerances, and operation sequence.
  • Adheres to JI’s and JHA specific to the machine(s) operated, follows LOTO procedures and maintains a pre-operation checklist.
  • Stages orders for most efficient runs and changeovers in accordance with team lead, supervision, and department planner requirements.
  • Produces a quality product using the quality plans and work instructions.
  • Documents work completed using the manufacturing system.
  • Analyzes and makes major/minor adjustments and edits to tool offsets and part positions in CNC equipment and controls to adhere to established specifications.
  • Awareness of procedures to use around hazardous materials. Recognizes HAZMAT conditions and alerts appropriate personnel.
  • Performs daily and weekly maintenance to ensure proper operation of the machine, i.e. maintains coolant level and concentration, oil levels, cleans the machine on a regular basis, inspects tools during runs and during changeovers.
  • Monitors material levels in the bar feeder and stages material for the next order, as necessary.
  • Monitors work to ensure that machine /equipment is not malfunctioning and takes corrective action.
  • Stacks, marks, packs, assembles, and transports finished work pieces as required.
  • Ability to work overtime as scheduled.
  • All other duties as assigned.
