About The Position

The Flow Mold Operator ensures the continuous operation of the flow molding process by managing the start-up and shut-down of the flow mold extruder, cooling system, and product molds. This role involves monitoring raw material loading, including weighing and adding colorants and additives, and identifying/rectifying flaws in materials and equipment to maintain quality standards. The operator is responsible for staging molds, monitoring filling processes, moving molds to cooling stations, and removing finished products. A key aspect of the role is the visual inspection of finished parts for defects and performing detailed measurements using various tools to ensure parts meet specifications. The position also requires maintaining accurate production records and adhering to quality inspection requirements. An experienced forklift operator is needed, or the ability to obtain certification through company training.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to other employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to operate various hand tools and equipment.
  • Ability to operate a manual and powered pallet jack.
  • Ability to pass forklift operator course and drive a forklift.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and peripheral vision.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous operation of the flow molding process.
  • Perform proper and accurate start-up and shut down of the flow mold extruder, cooling system, and product molds.
  • Ensure proper raw materials are continuously loaded, including weighing and adding color and other additives.
  • Detect flaws in raw materials and production equipment and make required mechanical or material changes.
  • Stage empty molds at the extruder to fill, monitor flow and pressure for proper mold filling.
  • Move full molds to the cooling station, disconnect molds when cooled, and remove product.
  • Visually inspect finished parts for defects.
  • Inspect and measure finished parts using various measuring devices (scale, caliper, micrometer, dial indicator, Go/No Go Gauges, tape measure).
  • Record data on inspection sheets and determine if parts meet specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of production set-ups, flow mold production data sheets, statistical process control, and/or inspection report sheets.
  • Complete and submit inventory tags.
  • Follow all prescribed quality inspection requirements.
  • Operate a forklift.
