About The Position

Sets up, runs, and monitors Cabler/Strander/Rework Line equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable. Performs specific job responsibilities following safety procedures and guidelines. Promotes OCC’s service excellence and quality. Champions OCC’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six months of related experience and/or training preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly.
  • Ability to read and follow basic instructions and to understand and implement quality procedures.
  • Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Pays close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to operate a hoist.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs.
  • Manual dexterity using hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Sight sufficient for significant reading and computer usage.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision.
  • Hearing sufficient for detecting alarms and communication with coworkers.

Responsibilities

  • Reads the set-up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
  • Sets up, runs, and monitors the Planetary Strander for all standard and nonstandard products.
  • Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool sub cables, fillers, and wire.
  • Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set-up sheet specifications.
  • Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
  • Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
  • Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production. Assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
  • Runs the rework line when the workload at the Strander allows including washing cables with E Cleaner or MEK, printing cables, stripping cables, respooling cables, wire, and fillers, and using the stripping wheel to strip armor and FRP cables.
  • Provides excellent service to customers; builds strong relationships and team cohesiveness; focuses on quality and positive solutions; communicates respectfully; demonstrates compassion and understanding in response to customer requests/needs.
