About The Position

The Machine Operator 1 sets up, observes, and maintains one or more centerless grinding and thru-feed machines. The role includes measuring and inspecting parts and carrying out related machine-operation duties. This position is based in Newington, Connecticut, and is scheduled for second shift, Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.

Requirements

Must be a U.S. Person as defined by the U.S. Government and able to work without restrictions with ITAR-related data.
High school degree or GED.
At least 1 year of experience.
Ability to troubleshoot causes of operating errors and determine appropriate actions.
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of the organization.
Ability to interpret policies, procedures, and standard business practices.
Ability to read, write, and understand English at a functional level.
Ability to travel 5–10% when required.

Responsibilities

Determine the appropriate tools and equipment needed to perform a job.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
Read blueprints and job orders to determine product specifications and tooling instructions, and plan operational sequences.
Set up and start machines, operate handles and part fixtures, and engage feeding, cooling, and lubricating mechanisms.
Manually position, adjust, and secure stock material or work pieces against stops, in fixtures, or in automatic feeding mechanisms.
Monitor machine feed and speed during the grinding process.
Observe machine operation for work-piece defects or machine malfunctions and adjust machines as necessary.
Inspect work pieces for defects and measure them to determine machine-operation accuracy using micrometers, gages, templates, or other measuring instruments.
Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines and adding coolant to machine reservoirs.
Perform other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required.
