About The Position
Apple is seeking an engineer or researcher to help build foundation models, infrastructure, and datasets with capabilities for understanding and generating text, images, speech, video, and other modalities, and to apply these models to Apple products. The role focuses on pre-training, model architecture, scientific scaling of large language models, and associated infrastructure. The engineer will contribute to long-term machine learning research, collaborate with colleagues across Apple, and may publish results in scientific venues.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated expertise in machine learning research or engineering.
- Hands-on experience with deep learning toolkits such as JAX, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra and statistics.
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Ability to formulate research problems, design experiments, and implement and communicate solutions.
- Ability to thrive in a diverse, collaborative environment.
Nice To Haves
- Publication record in relevant conferences, such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ACL, or EMNLP.
- Experience in competitive programming, such as ICPC, NOI/IOI, or equivalent competitions.
Responsibilities
- Design efficient model architectures tailored to product and business requirements.
- Propose research plans to advance understanding of machine learning and execute them through implementation and experimentation in collaboration with colleagues.
- Optimize workflows and/or infrastructure to improve training efficiency and scale.
- Collaborate with broader teams across Apple.
