About The Position

Hitachi America, Ltd. is seeking a Machine Learning/Computer Vision Research Scientist to join their team in Santa Clara, California. This role involves researching and implementing advanced deep learning models for computer vision tasks such as object detection, identification, tracking, and comparison. The focus is on developing generalized AI solutions capable of few-shot learning in data-scarce environments. The scientist will execute proof-of-concepts with customers, create innovative algorithms for smart industry, social innovation, and the Internet of Things, and work with business units to commercialize successful concepts. A key aspect of the role is protecting Hitachi's intellectual property through patents and publishing technical results to establish Hitachi as a leader in big data and advanced analytics. The position also involves conducting research to solve challenging problems in the industrial domain and collaborating with customers in co-innovation, particularly in applying novel machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing techniques. This includes understanding customer problems, formulating them mathematically, analyzing customer data, implementing concepts, testing hypotheses through experimentation, and modifying solutions based on customer feedback to meet business needs. The role contributes to developing state-of-the-art Industrial AI and solving research problems by formulating hypotheses, proposing mathematical formulations, solving them, and testing/refining solutions. Projects will involve a combination of commercialization, patent applications, and research paper publications. The scientist will present research works externally and participate in internal research workshops and conferences.
