About The Position

The Machine Helper performs duties as a roll tender or wrapper/bander and assists Machine Operators in producing sheeted skids of paperboard. The position requires working with minimal supervision and communicating effectively with production and office personnel. Work includes preparing rolls and skids, operating and inspecting equipment, following safety and environmental procedures, and maintaining a clean work area. The role involves physically demanding work around machinery for 12-hour shifts, with an 8-hour rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays, and overtime as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 2 years of continuous full-time work experience or having been a full-time student.
• Understand and comply with manufacturing safety procedures, including personal protective equipment requirements.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment involving temperature extremes, loud noise, and slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor involving bending, walking, sitting, and climbing around machinery and equipment for an entire 12-hour shift.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently, 40 to 50 pounds occasionally, and over 50 pounds minimally; team lifting and overhead crane assistance are used when lifting 50 pounds and above.
• Ability to work an 8-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays, and work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Help in the Wrapper/Bander area during the final phase of manufacturing.
• Confirm skids against orders and prepare them for delivery or storage in compliance with quality and customer specifications; stage skids for use.
• Stage completed orders in the warehouse by job number and customer to support retrieval, shipment, and proper spacing according to procedures.
• Wrap and band skids using approved tools, including pliers and pallet jacks, and set up pliers.
• Assist other wrapper/banders and help train new Machine Helpers.
• Perform minor maintenance and work with the Maintenance Technician as needed.
• Conduct routine equipment inspections according to preventive maintenance routes, check sheets, and frequencies.
• Attend and apply company-provided job- and department-specific training.
• Recognize errors and problems with delivered materials, troubleshoot common issues, and escalate unresolved issues to support inventory accuracy and receipt of goods.
• Confirm rolls against orders and prepare rolls for use, including preparing leftover rolls for return to inventory and storage.
• Load rolls into the roll stand and splice rolls as needed.
• Operate the core splitter.
• Assist other Roll Tenders and help train new Machine Helpers.
• Hold self and others to high safety standards, uphold workplace safety policies, and follow safety rules, including lockout/tagout procedures, safe driving practices, and appropriate PPE use.
• Participate in safety incidents as needed and help investigate root causes.
• Maintain a clean work environment, follow housekeeping procedures, and dispose of waste properly.
• Operate, maintain, and inspect equipment to comply with applicable environmental regulations, reporting procedures, and safety requirements.
• Act consistently with company values and attitudes.
