About The Position

The Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN currently has an opening for a Machine Excellence Diagnostic Specialist. In this role you will have the responsibility to use a variety of metrology equipment to perform diagnostic and troubleshooting of complex domestic and foreign machine tools and related equipment. Schedules and performs proactive diagnostic inspections on machine tools and related equipment to achieve quality improvements. This individual will assist in supporting the maintenance team to troubleshoot electrical or mechanical problems that may arise. Correct or improve geometrical accuracy and dimensional tolerances on equipment to comply with B5.54 methods. Individual will assist in the geometrical tolerancing and B5.54 compliance testing for new machine tool purchases.

Requirements

  • Experience in utilizing one or more of the following systems: API 6D laser, API & Leica tracker laser, Hamar laser, Renishaw ball-bar, electronic levels, and API spindle analyzer to diagnose machine tool conditions.
  • Ability to create, manipulate, and chart, using electronic spreadsheets to achieve desired results.
  • Must be able to read and understand machine tool prints, interpret CMM reports, and work with tight tolerances.
  • Thorough understanding of leveling and alignment of machines.
  • Thorough understanding of machine tool controls, control functions, machine tool offsets, compensations and basic programming.
  • Successfully completed an approved skilled trades apprenticeship program or possess a minimum of three years of experience in the lasering and/or alignment of machine tools and related equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must be willing to work large amounts of overtime to support production goals.
  • Must be able to work at heights, climb ladders, work underground, and in confined spaces.
  • Candidates for all positions must have the ability to work in a fast pace, medium to heavy duty assembly, and technical environment.
  • Work may involve frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling, twisting, turning, climbing, and standing on concrete for 8+ hours.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
