About The Position

The Machine Builder is responsible for assembling machined and purchased components to build custom machinery and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, job instructions, and specifications. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude and machine-building experience, with the ability to independently complete most assemblies, use precision measuring equipment, perform basic electrical and fabrication work, and safely operate a variety of shop equipment and tools.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of machine building or related mechanical assembly experience.
  • Experience building at least two machine models with the ability to independently complete most assemblies.
  • High level of mechanical skill with knowledge of machine assembly and precision inspection techniques.
  • Working knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and job instructions.
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and heavy rigging.
  • Ability to accurately use and read precision measuring equipment.
  • Basic shop math skills.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and applicable shop equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with a team-oriented approach.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and email.
  • Must possess required basic hand tools.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment while complying with all applicable quality, safety, and workplace policies and procedures.

  • Journeyman’s card or completion of an apprenticeship program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble machined and purchased components to build machinery and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, job instructions, and specifications.
  • Build, fit, align, adjust, and install components necessary for proper machine operation.
  • Read and interpret mechanical blueprints and schematics to determine proper assembly methods and component placement.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment to complete and verify assembly work safely and accurately.
  • Perform basic junction box wiring as required.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and heavy rigging activities as required.
  • Safely operate shop equipment, including drill presses, small mills, band saws, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical assembly issues and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper fit, alignment, and machine function.
  • Provide direction and technical assistance to other team members as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment while complying with established quality, safety, and workplace procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support production schedules, quality standards, and project requirements.
