About The Position

ATC Automation is seeking a Machine Builder to join our team in Cookeville, TN. This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on mechanical expertise with cutting-edge automation technology in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. As a Machine Builder, you will assemble, fit, install, rebuild, and repair custom automated equipment using blueprints, engineering documentation, and technical specifications. You will play a critical role in delivering high-quality automation systems by working closely with engineers and cross-functional teams to ensure equipment is built accurately, efficiently, and to customer requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in machine building, assembly, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with precision mechanical assembly and machine setup.
  • Experience troubleshooting equipment and resolving mechanical issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with coworkers, engineers, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, follow detailed instructions, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certificate in manufacturing, assembly, machining, or a related mechanical field preferred.
  • Understanding of machining processes, toolmaking, and mechanical design concepts preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, fit, install, rebuild, and repair automated machinery and equipment using engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Interpret and apply mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to support machine assembly and troubleshooting.
  • Verify bills of materials (BOMs) and confirm components meet design and customer requirements.
  • Align machine components and assemblies, verify tolerances, and ensure proper fit, function, and performance.
  • Perform machine setup, operational testing, tryouts, and performance validation.
  • Complete layout work, including locating, drilling, and tapping holes as required for assembly.
  • Create hand sketches with accurate dimensions to support fabrication or modifications.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and assembly-related issues, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Evaluate nonconforming parts and determine proper disposition, including rework or rejection in accordance with quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and designers to support machine builds and drawing updates.
  • Read electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and I/O layouts to assist with low-voltage checks and pneumatic system plumbing.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment to support operational excellence and workplace safety.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
