Guided by policies and procedures of the DAP Health Medical Clinics and under the direction of the Clinic Nursing Manager, the Medical Assistant Prescription Coordinator will play a critical role in optimizing the clinic workflow to create a patient-centered environment while assisting Clinicians and staff with prescriptions and prior authorizations.

Requirements

  • Proficient in the utilization of the electronic medical record system as it applies to the position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Engagement in complete delivery of quality customer care in an effective and professional manner.
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant program.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross accredited BLS certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with medication refills and prior authorization protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual – Spanish/English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with medication refills and prior authorizations requested by providers.
  • Documents all patient encounters in the EHR system.
  • Discontinues medications with the appropriate pharmacies.
  • Works closely with Case Management, Home Care, and Community Health staff to ensure continuity of prescriptions.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and efficiently (i.e., prescription refills, new prescriptions, pre-authorization RX requests, etc.).
  • Serves as patient liaison by assisting patients with questions and requests.
  • Maintains unit operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Conserves unit resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Requests and retrieves client files as needed.
  • Answers telephone and relay messages.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
