About The Position

Vanguard Skin Specialists is seeking a Front Office/Back Office Medical Assistant/Mohs Tech who shares their mission of making a positive impact on patients, the community, and the world. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of providers across Vanguard's dermatology and Mohs surgery practices. Team members in this position will support multiple physicians, including three fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons, while developing expertise in both Medical Assistant and Mohs Technician responsibilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to develop expertise in both clinical and surgical dermatology. The successful candidate is highly organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering an exceptional patient experience while supporting providers across multiple areas of the practice. The main focus of this role is covering as a surgical medical assistant and Mohs tech. Additional float time hours may be spent as a general medical assistant or in administrative areas such as scheduling, surgery scheduling, or referrals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science (biology, chemistry, etc.) from an accredited 4-year university, or equivalent laboratory certification, such as MLT or histotechnician
  • Proven track record of working well on teams and delivering excellence.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.

  • Customer service experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to exam room, takes detailed medical history, documents medications, and confirms reason for visit.
  • Takes vitals as needed.
  • Documents appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicates patient reason for visit and medical summary to medical providers accurately and efficiently in preparation for exam.
  • Acts as chaperone for the provider examination.
  • Scribes during the visit, accurately documenting areas examined, notable findings, treatment plan, recommended medications, and recommended procedures.
  • Assists providers in dermatology/plastic surgery specific procedures including administering local anesthesia, blotting during surgeries/biopsies, cutting suture, and bandaging post-procedure.
  • Speaks with patients over the phone as directed regarding biopsy results, medication prior authorization status, and other patient questions and concerns.
  • Documents calls and prior authorizations in the EMR.
  • Will cut tissue on a cryostat and prepare slides during our Mohs surgery clinics, providing high-quality slides with consistency.
