M365 Engineer

Campbell'sCamden, NJ

About The Position

We are seeking a M365 Engineer to serve as the technical authority for our Microsoft 365 messaging, collaboration, and productivity platform. This is a strategy-and-outcomes role focused on setting technical direction, defining the standards others build against, and being measured on the results the platform delivers to the business. The ideal candidate will have both, hands-on Microsoft 365 mastery with the ability to build and drive a multi-year strategy and roadmap that continuously improves the overall service. This role sets technical direction, raises the bar on reliability, security, and user experience, and orchestrates a delivery model that relies heavily on managed service partners and Microsoft to execute day-to-day work — while leading, directing, and assuring that work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 4+ years supporting Microsoft messaging, collaboration, and productivity platforms — or equivalent experience.
  • Deep, hands-on mastery across Microsoft 365 — Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and tenant administration — at large enterprise scale.
  • Proven track record building and driving a technical strategy and multi-year roadmap.
  • Strong background in email security, identity and access (Entra ID / Active Directory, authentication, SSO), retention, encryption, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience leading service delivery through managed service providers and Microsoft — setting standards, managing to SLAs, and holding partners accountable to outcomes.
  • Advanced PowerShell and Microsoft Graph skills for administering, automating, and reporting on Microsoft 365 services.
  • Solid grasp of networking and messaging fundamentals — DNS, SMTP, IP addressing, certificates, and secure connectivity.
  • Exceptional analytical, planning, and communication skills, with the executive presence to influence both technical teams and senior leaders.
  • A continuous-improvement mindset — able to balance operational stability with forward-looking modernization in a rapidly evolving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certifications in Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Teams, security, compliance, identity, or endpoint administration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Purview, Defender for Office 365, Intune, Entra ID, and Azure app registrations.
  • A track record of leading Microsoft 365 migrations, transformation programs, or large-scale service-improvement efforts.
  • Experience with monitoring, reporting, and analytics tools to assess service health, adoption, security posture, and operational performance.
  • Familiarity with how collaboration technologies (Teams Rooms, Teams Phone, enterprise voice) intersect with the Microsoft 365 platform.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy for the Microsoft 365 platform — define a clear vision, target-state architecture, and a prioritized multi-year roadmap for improving the overall service.
  • Drive continuous service improvement by identifying gaps in reliability, security, cost, adoption, and user experience, then translating them into funded, sequenced initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Establish standards and guardrails for configuration, security, and operations that partners and Microsoft deliver against, ensuring consistency and quality across the environment.
  • Stay ahead of the Microsoft roadmap — evaluate new capabilities, retirements, and security enhancements, assess their impact, and fold the right changes into the roadmap ahead of time.
  • Advise leadership with clear, business-oriented recommendations, options, and trade-offs, and build the business case for modernization and platform investments.
  • Accountable for the following Microsoft 365 services: Exchange Online & Outlook — messaging, mail flow, mailbox and distribution management, email security, retention, and compliance controls.
  • Accountable for SharePoint Online — content services, site governance, permissions, and integration with the broader collaboration ecosystem.
  • Accountable for Microsoft Teams collaboration — chat, channels, teams governance, and collaboration workloads. (Teams meetings, webcasting, and live events are owned by the Meetings Experience team; this role partners with them but is not responsible for those services.)
  • Accountable for all other Microsoft 365 services — OneDrive, tenant administration, identity integration, and the productivity services that make up the platform.
  • Own the governance model, policies, standards, and lifecycle for the platform, and ensure partners operate within it.
  • Direct partner-led tenant and service administration, review and approve changes, and ensure configurations meet enterprise standards.
  • Own the support model and service levels for messaging and collaboration; oversee partner-delivered incident, request, change, and problem management, and lead escalations and root-cause analysis for major issues.
  • Accountable for the platform’s security posture (email security, identity and access, data protection, and compliance), working with IT Security and partners to remediate risk and continuously harden the environment.
  • Hold partners and Microsoft accountable to outcomes, SLAs, and quality; provide technical direction and assurance over their delivery.
  • Lead major initiatives — migrations, feature rollouts, integrations, and modernization efforts across the platform, coordinating partner delivery from design through hypercare.
  • Champion automation and standardization to improve efficiency and reduce operational toil using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and Microsoft administrative tooling.
  • Ensure Microsoft 365 services connect securely with identity, endpoint management, security tooling, and third-party applications.
  • Mentor engineers and partner resources, review designs, and maintain high-quality architecture, documentation, and knowledge-transfer materials.
  • Communicate clearly with IT, end users, partners, and leadership on changes, incidents, enhancements, and service improvements.
