About The Position

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Medical Center’s strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. The LVN in the Surgical Unit is responsible for providing patient care in a safe and effective manner. Additional responsibilities include directing the Patient Care Assistant activity, synthesizing patient information, performing focused assessments of patients, reviewing discharge instructions, implementing treatment plan/MD orders, and documenting and evaluating per unit standards. Collaboration between healthcare team members and integration of patient care standards are incorporated into all clinical activities.

Requirements

  • 1 Year experience working as an LVN in an acute care hospital setting preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse Certification required
  • Intravenous Therapy and Blood Withdrawal (IVBW) Certification required
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Card required
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Card required

  • 1 Year experience working as an LVN in an acute care hospital setting
  • Electronic Medical Record experience

Responsibilities

  • Gather information related to health care needs. Under the direction of the RN, follow a data collection process that is systematic, includes psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and other factors and that is ongoing, determined by the patient’s immediate condition or needs, involving the patient, family, significant others, and health care providers when appropriate.
  • Implement a plan of care as determined by the RN to meet the patient’s nursing needs and expected outcomes.
  • Identify subtle as well as obvious patient problems and report abnormal findings to the supervising RN in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate the patient’s outcomes in conjunction with the supervising RN. Evaluation is systematic and ongoing, is determined by the patient’s responses to the interventions, which are documented in the medical record.
  • Systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in conjunction with the supervising RN. considering factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care as a professional work responsibility.
  • Reinforce patient and family education provided by the RN regarding discharge instructions, medication usage, and follow-up care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
  • Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
  • Address the age specific needs of all populations served, adult, and geriatric.
  • Ability to be at work and be on time. Ability to follow company policies, procedures and directives.
  • Ability to interact in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask
