About The Position

Responsible for supporting staff development, regulatory compliance, and daily nursing operations within the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This role integrates Director of Staff Development (DSD) functions with Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) responsibilities to ensure clinical excellence, staff competency, and efficient staffing operations. Collaborates with the Director of Post-Acute Nursing, Clinical Educator, Nurse Managers, and Charge Nurses to support onboarding, education, quality improvement initiatives, and staffing optimization across Subacute, Rehab, and Short Stay Rehab units.

Requirements

  • CA Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • BLS
  • Intravenous therapy certification and Blood withdrawal certification within six months of hire/transfer.
  • DSD distinction with the CA Department of Public Health within 3 months of hire/transfer.
  • At least one year experience with staff education, training, or preceptorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a DSD, ADON, or leadership role in a SNF
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility or post-acute setting
  • Experience with survey process, POCs, and QAPI programs
  • Familiarity with staffing systems and productivity management

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and delivers new hire orientation for SNF CNA and LVN staff in collaboration with the Clinical Educator for Post-Acute Nursing.
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts CNA in-services in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and tracks all mandatory training and education compliance for SNF staff.
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and structured follow-up for CNA and LVN new hires to support competency and retention.
  • Performs competency validations and skills assessments for nursing staff in collaboration with clinical educator.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal training requirements for SNF operations.
  • Maintains accurate records of all education, competencies, and in-service attendance.
  • Develops and maintains balanced staffing schedules for Subacute, Rehab, and Short Stay Rehab units.
  • Monitors and adjusts staffing to ensure productivity standards and staffing ratios are achieved.
  • Collaborates with Nurse Managers and Charge Nurses to float staff appropriately, implement late starts or flex staffing, and adjust assignments based on census and acuity.
  • Assists the Director of Nursing (DON) with Plan of Correction (POC) audits and monitoring, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, and survey preparation and readiness.
  • Supports daily operations and provides clinical oversight as needed.
  • Works floor shifts within the SNF as needed to support staffing needs.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
  • Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs.
  • Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
