About The Position

Licensed Vocational Nurse Unit Secretary assists in the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating of patient's needs under the supervision and direction of the RN and performs the receptionist and secretarial duties. Additionally, they will oversee correctly entering codes for patients undergoing Dialysis treatments, responsible for scheduling dialysis treatments and assist transporting patients to and from their dialysis treatments. The unit secretary performs the receptionist and secretarial duties.

Requirements

  • Current licensure with the State of Texas
  • American Heart Association BLS (Healthcare Provider)
  • General knowledge of basic bedside nursing.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department.
  • The skills and knowledge to provide such care are gained through education, training, and/or experience.
  • CVU-BLS (Healthcare Provider)
  • Knowledge of CPOE, transcribing physician orders, telephone etiquette.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current State of Texas LVN license.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in assessing, planning, implementation and evaluating of patient's needs under the supervision and direction of the RN.
  • Performs receptionist and secretarial duties.

  • Attends the required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in understanding the materials presented during the corporate integrity and compliance training and education program.
  • Complies with all HIPAA standards.
  • Provides care, based on the physical, psychosocial, education, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department.
  • Answers phone politely and responds with appropriate information or forwards call as required.
  • Transcribes physician orders.
  • Maintains continuing education if required for preferred certifications.
  • Assists shift manager in maintaining an efficient running unit by providing clerical assistance.
  • Refers to policies and procedures when appropriate.
  • Reports any changes on telemetry monitors and calls from call light to appropriate staff.
  • Inventories, orders and restocks unit to maintain adequate paper supplies.
  • Communicates effectively to individuals of all ages.
  • Transcribes licensed independent practitioner orders accurately and demonstrations how to use CPOE.
  • Schedules and completes tasks with minimal supervision and in a timely manner.
  • Is adaptable and responsive to change (including floor assignments).
  • Knows and follows chain of command and maintains confidentiality of information.
