About The Position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing daily back-office clinical operations at the assigned clinic site to ensure efficient patient flow, quality patient care, staff support, and compliance with FQHC, state, federal, and organizational standards. The LVN Charge Nurse serves as a clinical resource and leader for Medical Assistants (MAs), LVNs, and other assigned clinical staff while supporting providers and collaborating with site leadership to maintain operational excellence and patient satisfaction. The LVN Charge Nurse functions within the scope of practice established by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or licensed provider.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee daily clinical back-office operations and patient flow.
  • Ensure exam rooms are properly stocked, cleaned, and prepared for patient care.
  • Provide direct patient care within LVN scope of practice.
  • Support providers during examinations and procedures.
  • Assist with triage and patient care coordination as directed by licensed providers and/or RN leadership.
  • Ensure timely rooming of patients and adherence to clinic schedules.
  • Monitor and support completion of medication reconciliation and pharmacy verification processes.
  • Reinforce infection prevention and exposure control protocols.
  • Serve as a lead clinical resource for MAs and other assigned clinical staff during daily operations.
  • Assist with training, onboarding, mentoring, and competency validation of clinical staff.
  • Monitor staff adherence to workflows, policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Assist with assignment delegation and workflow coordination to maintain efficient clinic operations.
  • Escalate clinical or operational concerns to nursing leadership and/or site administration.
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with HRSA, OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and FQHC quality standards.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and population health efforts.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Participate in audits, chart reviews, and compliance activities as assigned.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and clinic response procedures.
  • Serve as the clinic Vaccine Coordinator.
  • Oversee vaccine inventory, ordering, storage, handling, temperature monitoring, and reconciliation.
  • Ensure compliance with Vaccines for Children (VFC) and other immunization program requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage medical and clinical supply ordering for the clinic site.
  • Monitor inventory usage, expiration dates, and storage of medications, vaccines, and supplies.
  • Collaborate with leadership and vendors regarding supply utilization and inventory management.
  • Coordinate care with providers, nurses, referral coordinators, behavioral health, dental, outreach, and other departments as needed.
  • Provide patient education and reinforce provider instructions.
  • Address patient concerns professionally and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Support continuity of care through follow-up communication and task management.
