About The Position

This position is responsible for the basic care and feeding of individuals with developmental disabilities. The LVN will document progress toward their goals as required by the program and work closely with the Case Manager & Program Manager to assist individuals in their personal care. As a member of The Arc Fresno/Madera counties team, the LVN will contribute to the efficient and effective daily operation of the program, ensure individuals we serve are safe and their needs attended to, and that they show progress in goals and objectives. The role also involves contributing to a pleasant, positive, cohesive, and uplifting work environment and serving as a role model to peers by using knowledge of basic principles and the People First philosophy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Graduate from an accredited practical nurse or vocational nursing program.
  • Current California license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write accurate, legible correspondence.
  • Must have good spelling and grammar skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.
  • Must possess valid California Drivers License, auto insurance and clean DMV records for any position where driving is required.
  • Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR certificates within six months of hire.
  • For all licensing programs, all employees must complete these requirements on first day of hire: Fingerprinting, CPR/First Aid certificate, TB test and a Physical.
  • The employee is expected to work as per scheduled and be consistently punctual and work the entire shift.

Responsibilities

  • Follows Basic Principles for Collaborative Team Work.
  • Takes direction from supervisors and give and receive coaching and feedback in the moment and in a positive manner.
  • Practices good customer service skills at all times.
  • Performs nursing plan procedures as directed by physician including nursing services, treatments and preventative, and rehabilitative procedures.
  • Observes clients, charting and reporting changes in client’s condition such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment.
  • Administers prescribed medication, tube feed supplement formula and other fluids, inserts catheters and empty fluid bags as required by the health care restrictive plans. Records times and amount on client’s charts.
  • Measures and record clients’ vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as needed.
  • Assembles and use equipment such as catheters and tracheotomy tubes.
  • Teach staff on health care topics such as diabetes, bloodborn pathogen, lifting…
  • Writes restrictive health care plans for specific clients prior to their onboarding. Trains staff prior the client first day at program.
  • Audits health care plans and medication administration records bi-annually or as needed.
  • Assures that proper infection control protocol is followed when using feeding tubes, syringes or catheters or any other medical equipment.
