About The Position

This position is responsible for serving students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness. The role involves assisting in food preparation and serving, operating the cash register, ensuring food supply replenishment, and managing food storage and disposal. Daily cleanup of kitchen and service areas, including dining areas, and periodic deep cleaning of refrigerators and storerooms are also key responsibilities. The position requires maintaining a neat and sanitary trash collection area and performing related duties as needed, including at special meal functions. This is a 184-day (9-month) position with daily work hours of 7.5 hours.

Requirements

  • Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • The ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
  • Background Check Required: Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.
  • Some climbing and balancing.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.
  • Significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Mental Functions: compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile.
  • Occasional mental functions: copy and negotiate.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a cafeteria preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and serving of food in a quick and pleasant manner.
  • Serve students and staff from the cafeteria counter.
  • Operate cash register.
  • Ensure that during meal service periods the supply of food offered is replenished regularly.
  • Assume responsibility for storage and disposal of unused foods.
  • Assist in the daily clean up of the kitchen and service areas, including the removal of used dishes and the cleaning of counters, tables, and furnishings in the dining area.
  • Perform major cleaning of refrigerators and storerooms at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by the Lunchroom Manager.
  • Maintain the trash and garbage collection area in a neat and sanitary fashion.
  • Perform related duties as required including duties at special meal functions.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
