About The Position

The Lunch Monitor at James Madison STEAM Academy is responsible for supervising students in the cafeteria and on school grounds during lunch periods. This role requires maintaining discipline, assisting students, and ensuring a safe environment. The position involves following school and district policies, including positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS) procedures. The job requires the ability to work effectively with elementary school-aged children and handle various environmental stimuli.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to work effectively with individual and groups of elementary school age children and others.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Ability to handle numerous distractions.
Visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important.
Ability to move quickly from one position to another in response to student needs.
Upper body strength with the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch periods in serving lines, while eating and during cafeteria dismissal.
Supervise students outside the building on school grounds, including playground equipment, ensuring the safety of all students.
Maintain discipline in the cafeteria according to school and district policies.
Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the cafeteria.
Assist students during lunch periods as needed.
Maintain positive and professional communication with staff, students, parents and other community members.
Adhere to school and district policies and procedures.
Understand and apply school PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) and discipline procedures.
