This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. The Mission Operations Training Team in Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence program is looking for a new member to help with our charter to train Flight Controllers, Astronauts, and other Mission Team members. To do this, we need a team of multi-talented professionals who can work at a high pace, having an outsized impact on the lunar program. The team’s area of responsibility is broad, requiring significant operational depth across multiple areas, from training simulation architecture to astronaut mockup design, instructional design, and training execution. As a Lunar Operations Training Engineer, you will be a key driver in shaping the future of human spaceflight training at Blue Origin. You will be responsible for defining, developing, and delivering comprehensive training solutions for our astronauts and flight controllers. In this role, you will analyze operational requirements and translate them into effective training products, including mockups, curriculum, and simulations.

Requirements

Minimum of a B.S. degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of relevant experience, demonstrating established professional expertise in operations, systems engineering, or project management.
Demonstrated ownership of projects from requirements definition through delivery, including experience with system-level integration and test activities (e.g., Test Readiness Reviews).
Ability to work independently on problems of varied scope with minimal oversight, exercising sound technical judgment to resolve issues.
Highly organized, with a demonstrated ability to self-manage and execute complex technical projects.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

Established professional expertise in understanding and applying engineering fundamentals across the development cycle (requirements, design, fabrication, V&V, and test).
Demonstrated experience in public speaking, delivering technical instruction, or mentoring junior team members.
Experience in instructional design or delivering training for high-consequence operations.
Experience with the design, build, or operation of human-interfacing systems, high-fidelity mockups, simulators, or complex training hardware.
Experience with human-in-the-loop testing and test procedure development.
Familiarity with simulation architecture or the software development lifecycle.
Experience working directly with NASA, other government agencies, or commercial human spaceflight partners.
Proficiency with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Experience with CAD file generation and manipulation, especially in Creo

Responsibilities

Lead project management efforts for training hardware development, providing key input to scope, schedule, budget, and milestones from concept through commissioning.
Serve as the primary technical and programmatic point of contact between the Mission Operations Training Team and internal/external engineering development teams and vendors.
Use your technical understanding of spacecraft functions to independently determine and translate training objectives into clear, verifiable technical requirements for mockups, courses, and software.
Collaborate with key contacts outside your own team (systems engineering, structures, crew systems, avionics, etc.) to ensure training product and hardware designs meet fidelity and functionality requirements.
Oversee the verification and validation (V&V) of training hardware, ensuring it meets its intended purpose for training effectiveness and human-in-the-loop testing.
Own operational documentation for your projects, including project plans, interface control documents, test procedures, and operational manuals.
Own the requirements, development, and execution of spaceflight mission training events using a variety of media including, instructor-led training, mission rehearsals, and hardware demonstrations.
