About The Position

As a Yard Lead for Bell Timber's Barron, WI team, you will play an important role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the site, including daily operations, logistics, production, and staffing needs, while maintaining a safe working environment. This includes providing guidance, training, and support to our team members.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Must be able to work as a team, take direction from supervisor(s), adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, follow work rules, and take on other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend new technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to use chain saw and hand tools (including tape measure) or ability to learn.
  • Proficiency in safely operating a range of heavy machinery and equipment.
  • Effective time management to complete tasks within deadlines.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and submit reports.
  • Ability to effectively operate a computer.
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee the unloading, loading, and processing of work orders in collaboration with site leadership.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure excellence with regulatory, environmental, quality, and defect categorization standards.
  • Ensure accurate documentation by regularly auditing paperwork and product counts.
  • Provide daily guidance to employees on their tasks and duties, communicating any performance concerns to management.
  • Perform any operational role within the yard as needed, including operating heavy or mobile equipment, grading, and/or framing poles, etc.
  • Lead by example and suggest improvements to processes when discovered.
  • Assist site leadership in ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Train new employees and support cross-training for additional duties.
  • Attend all required trainings, leading safety or other trainings as directed.
  • Maintain production paperwork and records daily.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, conducting department inspections as assigned.
  • Ensure that equipment production areas (inside and outside) as well as communal spaces are well maintained. This includes shoveling snow or other grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure workplace health and safety by observing all safety guidelines (including proper PPE), requirements, and procedures and reporting any concerns to management.
  • Operate machinery and tools correctly and maintain them with care, notifying supervisor of any equipment requiring maintenance.
  • Work cooperatively with the production team to meet quotas, goals, and operational needs.
  • All other duties as assigned.
