About The Position

The Lumber Yard Helper supports yard operations by maintaining an orderly yard and assisting with customer service, order fulfillment, truck loading and unloading, inventory, and safe handling of lumber and other materials. The role may also involve helping a truck driver navigate to a job site and unload the truck when assigned.

Requirements

• Previous lumber or building supplies experience is strongly desired.
• Excellent communication skills are required.
• Experience using third-party building supplier system applications is desired.
• The position may involve standing, walking, reaching, lifting, bending, crouching, climbing, pushing, pulling, and sitting for long periods throughout the day.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work in cold weather in winter and hot weather in summer.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Previous lumber or building supplies experience is strongly desired.
• Experience using third-party building supplier system applications is desired.

Responsibilities

• Help maintain yard cleanliness and keep lumber materials neat.
• Pick orders and load and unload vendor and company trucks when directed.
• Assist customers in the yard, shed, or warehouse.
• Help forklift operators as directed.
• Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent stored or transported items from shifting or being damaged.
• When assigned to a truck, help the driver navigate to the job site and unload the truck there.
• Follow company safety policies and procedures and encourage other employees to do the same.
• Assist with inventory and verify computations against physical stock counts.
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
