Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience in the home and building or construction industry with at least three (3) years of progressive leadership experience
  • Construction accreditation, solid understanding of construction methods and experience estimating and project quoting is essential for success in this role.
  • Class 5 Drivers License
  • Willing to obtain applicable certifications (examples: Forklift, First Aid, OHC I, OHC II, WHMIS, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading and supporting the Home Centre team in all areas including day-to-day operations; short-term/long-term planning while maintaining a positive, teamwork-inspired, safety conscious environment.
  • Oversee lumber and yard operations to include compliance with organizational standards (brand, image, merchandising, asset protection, etc.) and legislative standards (employment standards; safety standards).
  • Assist in achieving budgeted goals through pricing, sales, margins, expense and inventory control, etc.
  • Provide leadership to the lumber and yard team, including recruitment, performance coaching/management, goal setting, training & development.
  • Assist with preparing and presenting detailed and competitive quotes, materials takeoffs, and project packages using estimating software and in-store tools.
  • Carry a keen interest (and keep current) in building materials, home improvement trends and a general knowledge of building codes.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relations through regular interaction with customers and contractors while resolving customer concerns promptly.
  • Support the tendering process and/or project quotes by providing quantities, costing/pricing and descriptive information associated to the overall building project.
  • Provide product recommendations to improve design quality, efficiency and structural integrity as needed.
