About The Position

KBS is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and experienced Lumber & Building Materials Specialist to join our Rochester, MN team in our brand-new, modern lumberyard facility. This position requires a minimum of two (2) years of direct experience working in a lumberyard and/or building materials environment. This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have hands-on experience handling lumber and building materials along with operating hand and power tools, maintaining an organized yard, preparing materials for customers and job sites and understanding the day-to-day operations of a professional lumberyard. Employees in this position are expected to work independently, take initiative, demonstrate a strong work ethic and integrity, and provide professional service to customers and coworkers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct lumberyard and/or building materials experience.
  • Experience must include hands-on work with lumber and building materials.
  • Must have experience loading, unloading, moving, organizing, and staging lumber and building materials.
  • Must understand basic lumberyard operations and material-handling procedures.
  • Must have experience using hand and power tools commonly used in a lumberyard or construction environment.
  • Previous forklift experience is strongly preferred; company forklift training and certification will be provided as required.
  • Must be able to safely read and understand warning signs, labels, instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be physically capable of regularly lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.
  • Candidates without at least two years of direct lumberyard and building-material experience will not meet the minimum qualifications for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous forklift experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, move, stage, and organize lumber and building materials.
  • Prepare lumber and building materials for customer orders and deliveries.
  • Pull and stage materials accurately according to customer and job requirements.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe lumberyard.
  • Assist with loading customer and company trucks.
  • Properly secure and handle materials to prevent damage or injury.
  • Assist with deliveries and material handling at customer job sites when required.
  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment after completing required company training and certification.
  • Maintain proper organization and inventory of yard materials.
  • Pick up, organize, and properly store tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable job-site safety requirements.
  • Attend regularly scheduled safety meetings and required training.
  • Use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Work effectively with yard personnel, drivers, managers, and customers.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Take initiative and identify tasks that need to be completed.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership qualities and a willingness to take on additional responsibility.
  • Conduct all work with honesty, integrity, professionalism, and respect.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
