About The Position

The Lumber Associate provides customer service and product knowledge, delivers and merchandises products, and helps control shrink. The role supports daily lumber department operations, including maintaining stock levels, inventory, and cleanliness, receiving products from approved vendors, promoting sales, and following store, department, and safety procedures. Depending on the location, the associate may operate a two-ton truck on streets and highways and may need a CDL and a good driving record. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Requirements may vary by store location, and management may change them.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively to customers and associates.
• Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
• A CDL license is required depending on location.
• A good driving record is required depending on location.
• Friendly, customer-oriented attitude and genuine enjoyment of helping customers.
• Self-motivation, high energy, passion for the products sold, and lumber business knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service and promote sales.
• Know how to use products offered and handle products properly.
• Perform quality assurance checks on products.
• Depending on location, operate a two-ton truck on streets and highways.
• Safely maneuver around the lumberyard and job sites.
• Hand unload materials such as drywall, shingles, and plywood.
• Promote and support established programs.
• Follow daily operational procedures to maintain stock levels, inventory, and cleanliness.
• Communicate with approved vendors and receive their products.
• Follow store and department policies and procedures, including safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
