The Caterpillar Landfill Technician is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing Caterpillar heavy equipment used in landfill operations. This role supports Orange County landfill facilities (San Juan Capistrano, Irvine and Brea) by ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. Work is performed on-site at landfill locations and may include field service assignments.

Requirements

One-year certificate or associate’s degree from a community college or technical school
Minimum 5+ years of CAT dealer experience
Ten years’ heavy equipment industry experience or equivalent education and experience

Responsibilities

Inspect, diagnose, and repair Caterpillar heavy equipment, including bulldozers, compactors, loaders, and excavators
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance such as oil changes, fluid services, and system inspections
Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems
Disassemble, repair, and reassemble machine components according to Caterpillar standards
Use Caterpillar diagnostic tools, manuals, and software to identify and resolve equipment issues
Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform field service repairs at landfill sites
Accurately document repairs, parts usage, and labor hours
Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in landfill environments
Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and site personnel
