About The Position

The City of Jacksonville's Land Treatment Site (LTS) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Wastewater Plant Operator team. This role involves intermediate, semi-skilled work assisting in the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment plant. The LTS treats up to 9 million gallons of wastewater daily, repurposing it back into the environment through natural purification and distribution to cultivated forest land. This process supports a healthy local economy through tree harvesting and provides a positive environmental impact by safely disposing of wastewater, eliminating discharge into the New River, and creating a 7,500-acre site that supports wildlife. The treatment process includes biological treatment lagoons, screening and grit removal, disinfection, and spray irrigation of treated wastewater in forested areas. The final purification is achieved by soil and trees, which act as a living filter, removing nutrients and supporting tree growth.
