About The Position

The LTL Department Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipping department to ensure orders are packed accurately, safely, and efficiently. This position leads by example by working alongside the team while maintaining quality, productivity, and safety standards. The Department Lead serves as the primary point of contact for operational issues, employee support, and communication with management.

Requirements

  • Previous warehouse and shipping experience, preferably in an LTL environment.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 70 lbs. and work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.
  • Experience using RF scanners and warehouse inventory systems.
  • Ability to operate or safely work around pallet wrappers, dimensioning equipment, table saws, hand saws, nail guns, drills, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to train, motivate, and support employees while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish with strong reading and writing proficiency in both languages.
  • Must have basic computer skills and be comfortable using a computer.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all daily operations within the LTL department.
  • Lead and assist employees in all department functions, including pallet packing, hood box packing, glass packing, dimensioning, crate building, and pallet preparation.
  • Ensure pallets, boxes, and crates are built using the appropriate size and packaging materials while minimizing shipping footprint and protecting products from damage.
  • Ensure proper use of protective materials, including Hexacomb, strapping, foam corner protectors, and glass packaging materials.
  • Verify completed shipments are measured and weighed using the dimensioning system before being wrapped, labeled, and moved to the staging area.
  • Oversee the construction of shipping pallets, hood boxes, and custom wooden crates using department tools and equipment.
  • Respond to daily operational issues, including misplaced or missing parts, damaged products, replacement labels, and special customer requests (Add Items).
  • Monitor employee attendance, break periods, lunch schedules, and department coverage throughout the day.
  • Review department emails and communicate effectively with supervisors and other departments to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Monitor packaging material usage to reduce waste while maintaining adequate product protection.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and productive work environment while following all company safety procedures.
