LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY, PAUL M. HEBERT LAW CENTER seeks to hire an adjunct faculty member for the Judicial Writing Simulation course for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. This is an experiential simulation course designed to place students in the role of a judge. The initial four hours of class meetings will cover the mechanics of opinion writing, ethical rules, and practical considerations guiding judges in negotiations, case decisions, and public communication through opinions. Students will analyze the Rhetorical Situation of an appeal from a judge's perspective, both as an audience for appellate arguments and as an author of judicial opinions. Following these initial classes, students will form "courts" and be assigned pending Louisiana Supreme Court or United States Supreme Court cases to decide. Preparation for each class session involves reading briefs for one case per week. Students will rotate the role of Chief Justice, allowing each student to lead discussions and assign the majority opinion. Students have the option to write concurrences and dissents to complement a shorter majority opinion or for extra credit.
