The LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) will direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility. This role involves meeting with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan shifts' services, programs, and activities. Key responsibilities include completing and filing required recordkeeping forms and charts upon resident admission, transfer, and discharge, and encouraging physicians to review treatment plans and sign orders. The LPN will receive and transcribe physician's telephone orders, chart nurses' notes descriptively, and inform nursing personnel of new admissions. Participation in facility surveys and performing nursing administrative functions are also required. The role demands the ability to thoroughly chart and document resident information, participate in the orientation of new residents and families, and make rounds with physicians as necessary. Consultation with physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation is essential, as is reviewing resident charts for specific treatments and medications. The LPN will prepare and administer medications, ensuring resident identity verification, and manage drug administration tasks. Maintaining adequate supplies and equipment for resident care and reporting needs to the Nurse Supervisor are crucial. The position involves administering professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, wound care, specimen collection, and routine laboratory tests. Taking and recording vital signs, checking food brought by visitors for dietary compliance, and providing health care instruction to residents and families are also part of the role. Maintaining resident confidentiality and adhering to resident's rights are paramount. Other work-related duties as assigned or requested will also be performed.
