Licensed Practical Nurse, Inpatient is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient under the direction of a RN. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for patients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) who have completed phase I recovery and are awaiting transition to the next level of care (floor or outpatient). In addition to this, the PACU LPN will assist the RNs in providing care to those patients undergoing phase 1 of their recovery, as well as, patients transitioning to the ICU as their next level of care. The employee must be able to care for postoperative patients requiring dressing changes, vascular checks, respiratory status monitoring, urine output monitoring, chest tubes, Vac-Pac's, etc. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. The employee must possess the ability to re-assess patients, administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures (as certified), and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.
