This position demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care or arrange for the provision of appropriate care, for patients, as pertinent to the scope of nursing practice and specialty of the office setting. The LPN will appropriately and accurately document all patient care/interactions in the patient medical record. They will participate in telephone triage by obtaining clinically appropriate data and symptoms from the patient and advising and instructing patients according to established protocols and/or orders from the provider. The LPN will ensure that all ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests are tracked and logged, and that the provider is presented with all test results. Responsibilities include pre-visit planning with the provider and care team, medication administration (including injections), checking vital signs, height, and weight, and assisting with reviewing medication history and updating the medication list. The LPN may also assist with satisfaction of pertinent health maintenance requirements, assist providers during procedures and examinations, and perform instrument and room clean-up. They will utilize standard precautions and comply with all applicable policies and regulations, including OSHA, CLIA, and The Joint Commission standards. The LPN will report patient's condition and reaction to the provider following procedures, medication administration, or treatments. They will also assist with patient inquiries for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and referral authorization as needed. Participation in electronic documentation of care at the direction of the provider is expected. The LPN may enter orders in EMR (computerized physician order entry CPOE) per provider order. They will complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing, including Point of Care testing for Hemoglobin A1C and other Point of Care testing as applicable, adhering to CLIA standards. Performing Quality Control and maintenance for Point of Care in-office lab procedures, as applicable, and performing venipuncture are also key duties. The LPN may be required to assist with the collection of specimens of body fluids such as urine and blood for laboratory testing, complete lab requisitions, and prepare specimens for pick-up. Providing patients with a Depart Summary and reviewing it at the end of the visit is also a responsibility. The LPN is responsible for all vaccine and pharmaceutical orders, including applicable state Immunization Registry (NCIR) and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) regulations, and monitoring inventory levels of clinical supplies specific to the practice setting.
