About The Position

The LPN performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. Some of the skills performed may include working with an RN and sharing responsibility for a team of patients, administering IV fluids and certain IV medications (after successful completion of a certification class), venipuncture for blood collection, insertion of IV cannulas, performing physical assessments and collecting information, rounding with physicians, checking fingerstick blood sugars, directing staff in patient care, insertion of foley catheters, dressing wounds and skin care, and collecting quick cultures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Practical Nurse Program
  • Current licensure by the Alabama State Board of Nursing
  • Demonstrates and maintains skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice and education of a Licensed Practical Nurse after orientation
  • Demonstrates competence of the care of the Acute Care patient after orientation
