About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on patient safety and well-being. The LPN Trainee will monitor patients, ensure a safe environment, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. This position requires adherence to all regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider CPR Certification to be obtained during CCHMC orientation and with renewal in accordance with organizational requirements
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention De-escalation Training obtained within 3 months of hire
  • Participates in all required CCHMC training and attends required in-services related to mental health training.

Responsibilities

  • Visually monitor patients at all times in the same room, including accompaniment to the bathroom.
  • Monitor the environment for safety.
  • Integrate age-specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care.
  • Observe the patient and provide personal and safety needs as delegated by the registered nurse.
  • Reassure the patient and family that Patient Safety Attendant presence is for their safety.
  • Offer concise and respectful choices and consequences.
  • Adhere to individualized patient safety precautions.
  • Utilize supplies and equipment as directed.
  • Promote a calm patient environment and reduce environmental stimulation.
  • Maintain clean, safe surroundings and patient/family privacy and respect.
  • Exhibit a nonjudgmental and empathetic attitude.
  • Contribute to a positive patient and family experience.
  • Listen to patient and family and remain engaged.
  • Acknowledge feelings and provide silent time for reflection.
  • Report patient needs to Patient Services staff.
  • Promptly report any change in patient behavior to the nurse.
  • Promptly call for assistance and notify the nurse of urgent or immediate patient needs/concerns.
  • Refer family to nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions.
  • Complete timely documentation of information in the patient medical record.
  • Assist with keeping the area organized and present a safe, accessible, effective, and efficient environment.
  • Respond and assist the clinical team as needed (e.g., transporting patients, gathering supplies, assisting with patient care).
  • Exhibit knowledge and behavior in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate effective documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Demonstrate effective use of department information systems (e.g., patient call system, Voalte phones, desk phones, emergency code activation switch).
  • Utilize hospital information systems effectively (e.g., Outlook, Kronos, ELM, Mosby).
