The LPN will work with RNs, assisting with the highest acuity patients or those with heavy patient loads. When the unit is at full capacity, the LPN will support the UNL patient load. Key responsibilities include administering oral and IV piggyback medications, providing trach care, performing dressing changes, and documenting assessments and care plans after initial RN assessment and care plan initiation. This position is on the NT7 Digestive Surgical Unit, a 43-bed unit specializing in acute and chronic digestive surgical patients, including bariatric, trunk trauma, high acuity surgical advance care, and patients requiring surgical interventions from OMFS to Colon Rectal Surgeries. As Carle is a level trauma center, most regional trauma patients will be admitted to this unit. The unit fosters a collaborative environment with surgical residents and attendings, focusing on providing the best and safest care. It is recognized as a high acuity, critical thinking unit that values connections and education, aiming to comfort patients during transitions. The unit has a full-time educator, a part-time educator, two nurse supervisors, a manager, and charge nurses.
