About The Position

The 500 Surgical unit is a fast-paced environment with 25 beds, serving a wide variety of patients. We commonly care for patients recovering from elective joint replacement procedures, colectomy, colostomy, gall bladder removal, appendix removal, amputations, fractures, mastectomy, bladder tumor, and more. We also accommodate medical overflow patients. Working on the surgical floor is challenging but rewarding. Maintaining accurate intake/output and encouraging early ambulation are essential for post-operative patients. Strict adherence to infection prevention measures is necessary to provide the best care. Teamwork is crucial for success.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
LPN license active in the state of Missouri.
IV Certification active in the state of Missouri.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates effective knowledge of scope of practice.
Exhibits valuable time management skills.
Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills.
Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.

Nice To Haves

Previous nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Performs administrative duties including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and data entry in medical records.
Measures and records vital signs.
Collects demographics and medical information, including review of medication list.
Prepares patients for examination.
Cleans rooms and equipment and stocks supplies.
Administers medications as ordered by the physician.
Performs specific competencies as directed by the department.
Maintains accurate intake/output.
Encourages early ambulation for post-operative patients.
Follows strict infection prevention measures.
